Since this site is starting out as a Mother’s Day present, I wanted my first post to be about fun memories with mom. The first thing that came to mind was memories of swimming. My earliest swimming memories were at the pool in Heath; the later ones are of Lake Hudson in Granville.
I remember when Jonathon and I were so young we were in awe of everyone who could swim in the deep end. Then, later on, we would go to Lake Hudson. That’s where I started to enjoy the free feeling of just floating. It’s also where I got better at swimming so that I could make it out to the floating dock.
Eventually it was just mom and I going to Lake Hudson. I continued to enjoy that feeling of freedom while floating. Together, we enjoyed to relief of the lake during the heat of summer.
Starting when I was in middle school or early high school, they played the song “Closing Time” by Semisonic at 7 p.m. to tell us to leave. There were times when very few people besides mom and I were left in the lake when the song started playing. We gathered our things to go and looked forward to the next time we could swim.
